AMANDA
After clocking up plenty of road-race miles (London, New York, Paris, Boston marathons etc), a move to the Peak District 13 years ago sparked my interest in off-road running and adventure racing. Since then, I’ve completed races such as the Marathon des Sables, Ultra Tour du Mont Blanc, Atacama Desert Crossing, the infamous Grand Raid Reunion (five times, and I’m still not sure why!!), and the Transalpine Run. Closer to home, I’m a 2008 OMM survivor, and have a Bob Graham Round attempt in my diary for 2010 (UPDATE July 2010 - completed the Bob Graham Round in 22hrs 53mins!!), plus return trips to UK classics like the Fellsman, Ennerdale and Rab Mountain Marathon. I work as a sports massage therapist, combining this with manipulative therapy, acupuncture and rehabilitation programmes.

ANDY
A love of cycling was inherited from my parents, and the biking bug really took hold in my twenties during a year-long trip across the Sahara – although, ironically, it’s cold-weather competition that appeals much more now. In 2001, I managed to stay frostbite-free to win the Iditasport Impossible across 1,100 miles of frozen Alaska, and followed that up by winning the 430-mile Yukon Arctic Ultra foot race in 2007. I’ve also creaked, crawled and stumbled across the finish lines of the Transalp, Cristalp, Trans-Poland and Grand Raid Reunion, as well as some of the UK’s longer races like the Derwent Watershed, Fellsman and OMM. I'm currently the official photogapher to the European Athletic Association, which gives me a great insight into the competitive benefits of not eating too much cake.
