TRIGGERTASTIC!

Date: 18/01/2012 21:59:08

WEARY but happy, the faces in Edale Village Hall said it all after Sunday's first-ever running of The Trigger, a new fell race co-organised by Nicky Spinks, her husband Steve and us here at Racekit.

The verdict?  A classic in the making - 20 miles of relentless fell from Marsden to Edale, taking in three Trig checkpoints along the way - Black Hill, Higher Shelf and Kinder West.

TRIGGERTASTIC!

With 169 starters and an impressive 166 finishers, the race stands to raise over £2,500 for Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team - the squad who provided safety cover for the event.

Overall winner on the day was Dark Peak international Oli Johnson in an impressive 3:13, with first woman across the line Heather Marshall in just 20 seconds over four hours.

All those who worked on and suported the event - ranging from Steve and Nicky who provided beef from their farm for the post-race chilli, to Mark at Fieldhead campsite who let us stage the finish on his land, to Bank View Cafe who prepared all the food - did so free of charge, so 100% of the money raised by the race went to Mountain Rescue.

Photos from the event are on our Facebook page here.

The Trigger race website is here, and some feedback on the race is on the Fellrunner forum here
