FUN SUN RUN

Date: 26/04/2011 17:44:17

LONG overdue we know, but a big thanks to all the competitors who made the first-ever series of Racekit mini mountain-marathons such a success - it was
great to round off the series with a scorcher of
a day in the hills and valleys around Hope in Derbyshire's Peak District.

As with the first two rounds of the series, the event saw a great turnout of nearly 200 competitors from across the country who pitted their wits against a challenging course set by those fiends at Dark & White Events.

As usual, there was plenty of map-pondering going on at the Hope Sports Centre HQ, with a range of route options to be decided on within the three-hour time limit.

FUN SUN RUN

With 21 checkpoints and 280 points available, many competitors started with the long climb up onto Lose Hill, before traversing a section of the famous ridge-top trail.  A couple of high-scoring checkpoints down in the Edale Valley tempted most to lose hard-earned height before climbing back up to the ridge and traversing around Mam Tor and onto the plateau above Castleton.

As the time ticked by, it was time to decide which checkpoints to pull in before heading back to base, and a scan of the results showed that - as usual - everyone had a different idea of what route worked best!

The dry trails obviously suited Steve Turland, who timed his run to perfection and cleared the whole course with 58 seconds to spare, while first lady was Helen Gilbert with a superb 253pts.  Full results are on Dark & White's website here.
