MUDATHON Rnd 1!
Date: 02/03/2011 13:48:36

As usual, D&W's course planners had created a interesting mix of route options, with a glance at their website's excellent route browser (click here) giving an insight into the various choices made.
Organiser Adrian Boyes said he was pleased that the event had attracted a large number of mountain-marathon newcomers: "This is an ideal event to get a first taste of navigation. All the routes are on footpaths, bridleways and minor roads, so there's nothing too complex about the route-finding.
"Several competitors came to us for some tips and advice before the event started, and we're always happy to help out. The main aim is for people to have a fun day out - and adding some navigation and route choice to a run means you get to test your head as well as your legs!"
First woman was Helen Gilbert, clocking an impressive 270 points - enough to place her 15th overall. First male vet was Darryl Watton, and first female vet Karen McDonald. First mixed team was Anthony Bethell and Tracy Dean, with 275. Other team honours went to Sara Hamblin and Kate Parr, Penny Collier and Sarah Broadhurst, Eleanor Robinson and Anne Cook, Alastair Hodges and Paul Jackson, Lee and Ian Rawson, and Andrew Vickers and John Shelton-Smith.
Next event in the Racekit-sponsored league is at Chapel-en-le-Frith on Sunday 20th March - click here to find out more. And remember, with two scores out of the three events to count, you can still qualify for league prizes.
