NEW for 2012, we're proud to announce The Trigger - a 20-mile, mid-winter fell race across some classic Peak District terrain.

Starting in the West Yorkshire town of Marsden, the point-to-point route takes in the three OS Triangulation Points (or Trigs) at Black Hill, Higher Shelf and Kinder West, before descending from the high moorland to finish in the village of Edale.

The straight-line distance is 20 miles, with well over 1,000 metres of climbing, but competitors will be free to choose their own route (subject to Out of Bounds areas).

Co-organised by Lakeland Peaks 24-hour record-holder Nicky Spinks, her husband Steve Burgess and us here at Racekit, the Trigger - supported by Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team - will take place on January 15th and will be limited to 200 runners.

Given the likelihood of extreme winter weather, all competitors will have to show experience of navigation in long-distance fell races, and a strict mandatory kit-list will be enforced.

Entries cost £10 per runner (including hot food at the finish), with ALL profits going to Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team.

As soon as out-of-bounds areas have been finalised, an entry form will be downloadable from this site (announced here and on the FRA forum), along with further news updates and information.  Competitors can also check the trig and checkpoint co-ordinates and entry list at www.trigger.org.uk.
