Date: 06/06/2010 00:00:00
ULTRA-RUNNER Stephen Pyke bagged the trig on Ben Hope last Thursday to smash the 10-year-old record for a continuous munro round.
After 39 days, 9hrs and 6mins of running, biking and kayaking, the 45-year-old Staffordshire athlete - known in the ultra-running community as Spyke - rounded off all 283 munros to trim nine days off Charlie Campbell's old mark. He even included Sgurr nan Ceannaichean, which Campbell counted on his 1990 run before it was downgraded by a survey.
Spyke was accompanied on his epic run by many fellow fell and ultra-racers, and raised funds for The John Muir Trust, a conservation charity.
